ABOUT ME

Patricia Carceller Suarez

Since being born in Zaragoza, Spain in 1997, I have been around the aerospace industry. From living in an Airforce base to moving around from Spain to Germany to the Netherlands in a NATO Environment. Living in 5 different cities and 4 different countries from the age of 3 to 17 made me the person her the person I am today. I have had three different curricular languages and with that three different schooling systems. So much change within a little timeframe at such a young age gave me the capability to adapt to new circumstances and surroundings very easily. It gave me the opportunity to meet people from diverse backgrounds and by the age of 3 already be fluent in two languages, which over the years increased to five languages, all though not all fluently.

2004 - 2009

Moving to Munich, Germany for the second time at the age of 7 I attended Munich International School where I learned and perfected the English language. Doing PYP and MYP forced me to think outside the box, improve my academic and interpersonal skills as well as help me shape into the individual I am today.

2009 - 2013

Having finished my chapter in Munich, I moved to Madrid, Spain for the first time at the age of 11 where I changed curricular language and program and went to German school to prepare for the Abitur. Adapting to a complete new curricular language was a challenge that I quickly overcame with self-motivation and help from my classmates. Developing a new perspective on society as I realized I had grown to be more open-minded being away from Spain for so long. With only 11 years I had lived 7 of those outside my home country, but it had given me the opportunity to appreciate the insight every culture had to offer me and gain so much from everyone's different way of life.

2013 - 2015

After four years in Madrid, I continued my journey at the age of 15 by moving to Maastricht, The Netherlands where I attended one of the 17 United World College schools and obtained my bilingual International Baccalaureate (IB). Going to a school as unique as UWC I interacted with people from all around the world that had left their home countries to be able to embark on this amazing educational journey at UWC. I learned so much about people's cultures, traditions and way of thinking, making me realize there was so much world yet to be discovered. It made me more culturally aware and also helped me widen my language profile
Moreover, IB gave me the ability to time manage, work under pressure and become more independent.

2015 - Present

After obtaining my bilingual diploma I was accepted to the University of Florida where I began my bachelor's degree in 2015 with a full Davis UWC Scholarship. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Aerospace Engineering and a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering on track to graduate in May 2019. This was my first time in the United States and away from my family, although it was tough to adapt to such a drastic change, I managed to pull through while maintaining a balanced schedule between class, extracurriculars, my job as a research assistant for the NASA funded project: DebriSat, my hobbies and passions, and my social life. Having to balance so many things at once gave a new definition to what I thought time management was. I learned to be more organized, to plan ahead but not be thrown off if things did not go according to plan (which tends to be the case in college), to practice self-care and just overall focus on being happy.

In college, it is hard to lose sight of your goals and perspectives and become overwhelmed by everything around you, but I learned it is important not to compare yourself to others because everyone's situation is different and only you can determine what you want to do and who you want to be.

After obtaining my degree I am looking to find a job in the Space, Aviation, UAV or Automotive Industry to be able to develop my skills as a young professional, be able to gain valuable tools from my job as well as applying my classroom skills and provide a fresh and open-minded perspective in any job I may have.
In the future, I would like to pursue a Master's degree and eventually and MBA.
